John Scott, (1945 – ) has had a successful career in education at all levels; primary and secondary but predominantly in tertiary education from which he retired after almost 27 years as CEO of three Polytechnics within New Zealand and overseas. As well as his career in education John Scott has been heavily involved in the arts and crafts community. Following a Fulbright Study Scholarship to investigate craft education John returned to New Zealand and was a key figure in the establishment of Craft education in NZ Polytechnics, and was responsible for the setting up of the Glass Arts programme at Wanganui Polytechnic. During this time he was elected President of the New Zealand Crafts Council and was deputy Chair of the Central Regional Arts council which he represented on the QEII arts council. In addition to his leadership roles he has also had a successful painting and sculpture career with numerous exhibitions and commissions in NZ and overseas and has won a number of awards for his work.

Since his retirement from the education sector he spends much of his time travelling and documenting  the visits to numerous countries with his wife and lifelong travelling companion, Dawn.
